I admire you Bobbi! I was ‘let go’ from a job I had for 35 years - I was devastated. I’m 62 years old- I should be winding down - not old enough to retire (yet). But now I’ve started a new job - something completely different and I love it!!! I started my career with a major health insurance company and now my second career with at a major healthcare facility. You inspired me to keep going no matter what you age and I thank you for that!!!! 💕
I loved Bobbi Brown products way back when and I love Jones Road even more. Thank you for not giving up and for excellent quality products now. WTF for the win!!
This hits home! I left a successful career in financial services and launched a new business nearly two years ago at the age of 55. In a saturated industry I knew nothing about – footwear – because I was obsessed about finding the “perfect slippers” that are not only comfortable, but also stylish and machine-washable (why do slippers have to be frumpy or clunky?). It’s been a steep learning curve, and there have been many days when I wondered if I should’ve stayed in my “safe” corporate lane. But I know I would have regretted not betting on myself and my idea. I keep reminding myself that Julia Childs didn’t become famous until her 50s and now you’re an insipiration to me, too!
Loved this! Thank you for sharing. Trying to figure out how to start over at 41 as a single mom. You are beyond an inspiration. Pre-ordered and can't wait to read your book!
Everything about this is so beautiful and “So Bobbi” can’t wait to read your book and thank you for this inspiration to keep going and find a niche. I love jones road!
You had me at “ bobbie brown” and now you have me at “ jones road”, thank you for making me feel good about myself and giving me added confidence with clean simple applications that look flawless. Ive started over now at 60… still in home and interior design, but ready to jump two feet in as im supposed to be doing something more too! ( btw, you gifted me the best baby product line back in Amagansett when you stayed at my home in the dunes) so i’ve been a LONG time fan of all you stand for! Thank you for you, a wonderful inspiration! ♥️
I’ve pre-ordered my copy! I can’t wait to read it. You have already inspired change in me. I love Jones Road and all of the Makeup tutorials you do. I have learned so much and am enjoying makeup again. My confidence has boosted. I am inspired by your journey, and as I have had many life changing events over the last year am re-evaluating the way I intend to spend the next 10 or so years. Career, volunteerism several things. Glad to tag along and learn from your experiences and insights.
Thank you for the inspiring motivation Bobbi. As recent as yesterday, yet another article posted on LinkedIn about ageism and how so many high performance contributors are accepting lesser titles & lesser pay. And not because they are choosing the wind-down, but rather due to the inability to get the job that meets their value & worth. I have likewise been experiencing difficulties finding a role despite barely being a different physical or mental person that I was a mere 3 years ago.
Others asked, how do you know when it’s time to pivot? It may just be out of pure exhaustion and disappointment from your general field of expertise. While that isn’t as motivating as it being “your drive, or your decision”, I’m trying to personally embrace the concept. I suppose the fear there lies in how many other industries will be dismissive and how to sustain suitable costs for living.
When you are 10-12 years from “retirement” age but it feels like you are being pushed early into retirement; it is not a good feeling.
Please continue to share stories & ideas on where mature, intelligent & motivated women can find homes. The insights are welcomed.
Thank you for always inspiring us Bobbi! It’s incredible what we are capable of when we are curious. I can’t wait to listen to your book and continue to glean gems from you! Sending you ❤️
Reading this , this morning, felt like divine timing!! It recalls all the feelings I am having and have felt for several years now, about my orthodontic practice!! 🤔I am so ready for the next chapter- but scared as I don’t know yet what I will do!! Turning 60 in September!! You have always been a source of inspiration to me!! 🙏side note- I visited the Jones road in Chicago & had a lovely makeup session!!!
At 39, I left a corporate career to follow my dream: to become a couture tailor. I went back to school fulltime with 2 kids, learned couture, and interned at haute couture Viktor & Rolf.
Reinvention is messy. It starts with a dream, a plan, and a great support system. But more is possible when you have already taken the leap. I don’t know where all of this will head, but I am grateful for to have at least tried.
Thank you for sharing your story. I hope it inspires a lot of people to see the opportunity and not the fear.
