As I was scrolling through Instagram last January, I kept seeing influencers and celebrities posting about this new treatment called “SofWave”. I never heard of it and didn’t know anything about it. I was interested, so I dove into all the important questions.
What is it?
A nonsurgical wrinkle reduction treatment that uses Intense Ultrasound Beam Technology™ (IUB) to rejuvenate collagen fibers, delivering dramatic anti-aging results. This device has replaced Ultherapy in our practice for non-surgical skin tightening as it is more effective and much less painful (Via Sactuary Plastic Surgery).

What does it cost?
According to Google, SofWave treatments range from $2500-$3500.
I was gung ho to try it because I’m not into filler or injectables, but I do love lasers and anything that will help me look and feel fresher and brighter without changing my overall appearance. I’ve done Ultherapy, and it was excruciating. I still remember how much my teeth hurt.
I've also done something called Pico, which wasn’t too painful. It helped me get rid of spots and gave me a brighter appearance.
I was excited to try SofWave, but I heard that it could be painful, I won’t lie. I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to pain. I reached out to the really nice receptionist in the office more than once, who connected me with a nurse to walk me through it and assure me that it was manageable.
The SofWave team arranged for a dermatologist in Florida named Jason Pozner, who was so kind, gentle, and hysterically funny. Of course, I came to the appointment nervous, asking a lot of questions. Not only did he calm me down, but he also gave me something to help ease my nerves and assured me that the procedure would only last 30 minutes. First, they applied numbing cream to my whole face and neck, and I waited about an hour until it took effect
By then the calming medication started to work and so did Dr. Pozner. And it was OK. It hurt a touch but it was doable. The entire treatment was done on my face and neck, and I was assured that I would instantly look better, but it takes full effect in one to three months.
Dr. Pozner asked me to come back for a second treatment a month later, which I did, and we repeated exactly the same process as the first time. This time, I knew what to expect, and I was really looking forward to the medication that calmed me down for 30 minutes.
It’s a good thing that the medicine isn’t readily available because I would definitely reach into the pill container if I had it at home. It has now been three months since I’ve had both SofWave appointments, and I am happy to report that it was great.
My results are subtle, but I do think my jaw is tighter, and my face feels fresher. I'm not sure if it’s the collagen that it’s supposed to build up or a placebo effect. I’ve been told it lasts for a very long time, but truth be told, if they said to come in and do it again, I would.
Aging is expensive
Update on my Ultera experience for anyone interested- I’m ten days post and my lower face/jaw area is still tender and bruised feeling but at least doesn’t look it. Hopefully I’ll see some results that I like, which I know takes awhile; otherwise not sure it was worth it.
