Some days I look in the mirror and just shake my head and say, "Yikes." (That was me this morning.) I know it usually coincides with how I feel. I'm a bit jet-lagged, and my sleep hasn’t caught up. Plus, two glorious weeks of feta cheese and filo dough in Greece don’t help. Here’s what I do to get through it:
Breathe – It will pass.
Hydration, stat – Inside and out. Water, water, water, and throw in some electrolytes or sea salt. This is always a struggle for me, even though I know the importance of proper hydration. Herbal tea works great. I make a big glass and drink it at room temperature.
Move – Nothing beats a quick exercise moment. Hop, skip, jump—anything helps. Even 15 minutes makes a difference. I started my morning on my Peloton treadmill, which I finally figured out how to use without a membership. I’m working on the 12-3-30 workout a hiker told me about: 30 minutes at 12 incline and 3 miles per hour. I was drenched! I had to play with the incline a bit, but not bad.
Moisturize – I packed on the JRB Miracle Cream this morning. It’s like a hydrating mask. I leave it on for 5 minutes, then either pat it off or in.
Add color – Cream blush like Lip and Cheek or Miracle Balm is a quick way to add moisture and color at the same time. Powders can feel dry and draining. I recommend less bright, more muted tones but still with color. I use Mauve Rose instead of a bright pink and applied it to my lips as well.
Apply mascara. A few coats always help. I also added JAS in Cool Brown to combat puffy eyes.
Brighten under the eyes – Use a color corrector or neutralizer where there's darkness under your eyes. The secret is to apply it to the inner corner and the deep part of the eye socket.
Slick back your hair – Add a little shine oil, and don’t forget to tap some on your neck and hands. Or, if you’re lucky like me, a color appointment can fix everything!
Bonus tips:
If your grays are showing, use matching eyeshadow and a fat brush to cover them up—it works wonders!
I’m wearing my bold frames from Caddis, which always help.
these are great tips! xo -Nicole
That was definitely me this morning. Feeling a little under the weather so herbal tea was the ticket. JRB neutralizer pencil plus my face pencil and a little bit of English rose lip and cheek stick. The only thing I didn't do well enough was continue to hydrate.
