Letting your natural hair come through has increased since COVID. I personally have covered
my grays since I was 25, and I’m not quite ready to let it go just yet. However, these beautiful, cool women make it look so good. Many of our JRB models, like Lynn, Shona, Melissa, Benilde, and Jin are stunning with their silver hair. As our hair changes, so should the makeup you wear. The nudes can look washed out but brights aren’t always the answer either. Here’s where to start.
Hydration
Even more important than makeup is skin hydration. Drinking plenty of water and using moisturizer, oils, balms, and eye cream make a huge difference. Both in the morning and at night, these steps are essential for keeping your skin fresh and hydrated. It makes us look so much better. Always make sure your product formulas add enough moisture and glow to your skin.
Even It Out and Lift It Up.
Use a tinted moisturizer or a moisturizing foundation to gently even out your complexion. Add a lighter concealer under your eyes to brighten. Then, find a pink or rosy blush or rosy bronzer to brighten and lift your skin. Add an extra pop of blush, from pink to coral to berry, depending on your skin color. Avoid browns and dull colors at all costs, as they can bring you down, as well as drying formulas. Get in the habit of layering textures and colors (hello Miracle Balms, and shout out to Jones Road's What The Foundation and face pencils!).
Brows Make a Huge Difference.
Everyone’s brows come in or fade away very differently. Make yours look right for your coloring. If your brows are still dark, you'll be okay with a brown, but not too dark, so check carefully. If your brows are white and faded, look for a gray or ash color that's not too red. The Jones Road Beauty gray pencil has been a game changer for a lot of women. You can fill in the brows and layer formulas to fill in and define.
Color is Cool
Pops of color are fun with silver hair if you like the look. While neutral colors might have been your first choice before, they can absolutely wash you out. So choose your own nudes, which bring out the colors native to you, which is very different from neutrals. My go-to shades are those within the rosy pink family and berries for darker skin. Corals work if you prefer an orange hue. Pinks work on everyone. One hack I always recommend is pinching your cheeks to find your perfect shade. Plus, it gives you a great natural blush.
P.S. If makeup isn’t your thing, you can add the color to your nails instead,
Eyes are Everything
If you want your eyes to stand out, I always stress the importance of eye liner and really black mascara. A navy shade works great for women with silver/white hair and blue eyes. For women with dark skin and silver hair, a black pencil is the best option to make your eyes pop. A brown shade can also work if the brown is deep and not red.
Go for the Glitter
Don’t be afraid of shimmer. Even the smallest bit of sparkle can make you look awake and brighter. A bit on the lid or inner corner of your and especially on the cheek! The right luminosity is a gift. Just think how good you look with a rhinestone or diamond earring!
